How to Be More Productive Working at Your Desk

Productive Working

Office workers know how it is: to spend the entire day at the desk. First, you just get tired. Later, such problems accumulate like:

  • Migraines;
  • Headaches;
  • Constant pains in the back and neck.

Of course, these issues have a negative impact on work productivity.

However, there is a way to solve these issues and thus, to become more efficient. If you get a standing desk, you can get rid of sitting-related issues and work more efficiently. Here, you can check desk options and choose the one that you like.

Use Your Standing Desk Correctly to Make the Benefits Most Advantageous

It is clear that just purchasing a standing desk is not enough to eliminate all your issues and increase efficiency at work. You need to use it correctly. Here are some pieces of advice on the best application of a standing desk.

Interchange Sitting and Standing Positions Correctly

While you might believe that the more you work in the standing position the better, this is pretty far from the truth. For maximum efficiency, you are recommended to interchange the positions.

In the beginning, it is better to sit for around 20 minutes, further, to stand for approximately the same time. You shall not get tired or feel discomfort, this is the main idea.

Adjust the Desk for Maximum Comfort

To achieve the best results, your desk shall be adjusted properly. Thus, your back shall be straight when you are working. The computer screen shall be at the level of your eyes – its center, not the edge. The elbows shall be bent at a 90-degree angle when you are typing. The hands shall rest on the keyboard.

If the desk model allows, get a special keyboard tray. The best of them can be removed under the desk top when not in use.

It is a good idea to purchase an adjustable screen support. It will help you to adjust the screen to the proper height and to achieve the needed tilt.

Don`t Forget about Exercising

Now, last but not least: do exercises.             Even if you work in the office and are shy to exercise when everybody can see you, with a standing desk, you can handle it.

There are exercises that can be done so that nobody notices. Those are, for example, stretches or twists. When you are standing, nobody can notice that you are working out. We shall admit that a height-adjustable desk is a perfect piece to use as a support when you are working out.

With time though, you will become less shy. And finally, when your colleagues see the results, they might even want to join you. Thus, you can move on to more complex exercises such as push-ups (this is one of the cases when your new desk can be used as a support).

With Time, You Will See the Results

Within a couple of weeks, you will see the first results. While the discomfort in the feet might increase (especially if you aren`t used to standing), but the pains in the back and neck will go. You will forget about migraines, too. And with time, you will notice that you lose weight, and in general, your health condition will improve. With it, the work efficiency will boost.
